Beardsley '82

Dick Beardsley has posted a feature from the August 1982 issue of The Runner magazine which lays out his training log from late February through late April of that year, when he raced Alberto Salazar in their epic Duel in the Sun at the BAA Marathon.  It is a good example of how top runners, to build-in recovery on a macro level, cycle their volume from week to week:
Take note of his entry from April 6th:
A.M. 3-mile warm-up, 7 miles up and down Heartbreak Hill in blinding snowstorm; 3-mile warm-down.
P.M. 3 miles easy (all I could do because of storm).
